Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2 June 2026

The Big North Company ("we", "us") is an independent, one-person software studio that builds developer and productivity tools, including Moderalist, a minimalist local-first project management tool. This policy explains what data we handle and why. We keep it short because we collect little.

Our principle

Our products are local-first. Your documents, plans, and content live on your own device by default. We are not in the business of harvesting your data, and we do not sell it — ever.

What we collect

  • Account information. If you create an account or purchase a licence, we process your email address and, via our payment provider, the details needed to complete the transaction. We do not store full payment card numbers.
  • Sync data (optional). If you enable sync, the content you choose to sync is transmitted to and stored on our sync infrastructure solely to deliver that feature. You can disable sync at any time.
  • Diagnostic information. We may collect anonymised crash reports and basic usage signals to improve reliability. This is aggregated and not used to identify you.

What we don't do

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We do not run third-party advertising. We do not build profiles of you for marketing.

Payment processing

Purchases are handled by third-party payment processors and, where applicable, the Apple App Store. Their handling of your payment information is governed by their own privacy policies.

Data retention

We retain account and licence records for as long as your account is active and as required to meet legal and accounting obligations. You may request deletion of your account data at any time.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR and equivalent laws, you have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these, contact us at the address below.
